Artist Statement October 2006

At the present time my work takes on concepts from fine art and textiles.
My work is a representation of woman, and I am able to do this to do this through colour and texture. I also convey myself in the work I produce; this can be seen in different ways throughout various projects.
With the work that I have produced this year, I want to show people where I’ve been, what I’ve done, what I enjoy doing and who I am.

I am a very image conscious person. I always look at other people and I look at myself to see how my image could be improved or modified, to make myself an individual rather than following a fashion trend. Image is a really big thing in this day and age within all aspects of life. An image can determine what kind of person you are, it can give you confidence and it can be used to signify emotions.
I like my individuality to be shown in my work, I want to show that I am conscious and have an understanding of what image means, especially my personal image.

By using textiles in my work I can signify the feminine part of myself, by incorporating design, interpretation of fabric, ribbon and sewing.
Sewing is one of the characteristics that used to be used to define an accomplished woman. However, now most women are defined in other ways. But I want to bring that feminine touch to my work. I am female and proud of that fact and I like to over emphasis this by showing my love for the colour pink by including it in most of my work.

The female form is a particular subject that comes up many times in my paintings. I see the female form as a thing of beauty, especially my own body. A naked form, whether male or female can be very vulnerable in some situations and at other times the nude is seen with strength and hope. Each of my female nudes signifies something different. Some signify fear and betrayal, some signify mystery others portray purity and hope.At a glance they all seem very different, but they are not. They show emotions that all females shall have. I have experienced all of the above emotions and more, so for every painting I make there’s a little piece of me in every one.

Ps. dont forget to look at my other pages! Even when you get to the bottom of this page, ther's still another 3 pages to look at.
