Edgar Degas

During my first year in high school I was introduced to Edgar Degas whilst we were doing a drawing project, (which basically involved us making copies of works by great artists- but at least we were actually practicing our drawing skills!). I don't know which picture I was copying (one with a ballerina), I just remember the vibrancy of the colours he used. He used pinks and purples, yellow, orange and blue and white - and that was just one one leg. I remember thinking, what a beautiful combination of colours. I also thought I can't believe so many colours can go into such a small aspect of a painting, such as one leg. So after this day (back in 1995), I have always considered Degas one of my favourite artists!

Ballet Rehearsal

 Blue Dancers

 Four Dancers

 The Green Dancer

 Seated Dancer Adjusting Her Shoes

The Entrance Of The Masked Deancers

 Group of Dancers

 The Millinery Shop

The Russian Dancers

Woman Combing Her Hair

Even though these are all by the same person, they all look very different as well. I love the fact that a lot of them are ballerinas and the contrast of very bold colours against more subtle colours working in collaboration on the same piece are interesting.
