Fiona Rae

Fiona Rae is an artist who uses a vast range of mixed media to create collaged paintings. What I like the most about her work is the way she applies the media. Because I have an interest in Fashion and Textiles - as well as Art - , I find that I am drawn to her work. Some of her work looks more like Textiles Craft, rather than Fine Art, but that's just my opinion.

Upon first looking at some of her work it seems as though it is placed quite randomly on the base, but when a moment is spent really looking at the work, you will understand that she has taken some time to consider where she will pace some things. This philosophy can also be applied to her paintings.  The way she applies the paint seems unconsidered and thoughtless, but it is clear that she really thinks about what she is going to paint, where she is going to place the paint and how she is going to do it.

As usual, the first thing that drew me to her work was the colours that she uses and the way the compliment each other.

I also like the facet that Rae, just like Milhazes is clearly inspired by the culture of her environment. Even though she is considered a british artist, spent some of her life in Indonesia and Hong Kong, China, where she was born. Though her work is not animated I can can see some aspects of anime in her work.

It makes me think about my culture and my heritage, and should I be adding more of it into my work? I think so!
